I hope you were able to attend this year’s Fall Carnival. Tons of laughter could be heard around the Stovall Theater as residents and staff played games, ate tasty treats and enjoyed time with the dogs from Paw Pals. I would like to extend a HUGE thank you to the members of our Resident Advisory Committee for helping us at the food table and entrances. The annual event keeps get-ting bigger and better.
Be sure to grab a leaf from the front reception desk so you can participate in our “What are you Thankful for?” Thanksgiving Leaf project. You’ll find the Thankful leaves hanging on some of our indoor plants and trees.
We started our remodeling project in the physician’s clinic. We will complete the project in two phases in order to minimize the interruption in the clinic. For a short time, some entrances might be blocked, but when we get to that part of the project, we will post signs and put something on the TV’s that announce our activities. Thank you for your patience during this time. We are excited about the upgrades that you will soon see in the clinic.
Thanks to one of the suggestions that came through our Suggestion Box (located on the north side of the Circle Lounge), we raised the dryers located in the community laundry rooms. They are now safer to use as the raised height will keep residents from having to stoop which could lead to a fall. Great idea!
As a reminder, if you walk outside, always walk towards the traffic and wear light-colored clothing. Resident Services has “safety vests” available for sale for those interested. The vests are fluorescent orange and very reflective.
Your tithes from our Sunday church services go into the University Village Foundation. Every month, the Foundation chooses a different worthy charity and makes a donation. In October, we donated $500.00 to In His Image International. Physicians from Tulsa (with Dr. Howard’s practice) went into Northern Iraq to provide free medical services to the persecuted Christians in that ar-ea. It was a great opportunity to remind them that God has not forgotten them and that He loves them like He loves us with an everlasting love.
We added a television in the scooter parking room. You are welcome to sit in that area, catch up on the latest news via CNN, while you are waiting for a meal or activity elsewhere. Thank you again for helping us to solve the congestion problem at the entrance to the dining room.
We are adding some tables to the dining room that are open for anyone. This area will not have any assigned seating. While the entire dining room is not set up for assigned seats, we know that many of you like to sit in the same seat every day. While this is your home and it is okay to sit where you want, please be sure you are welcoming to new residents and guests that are looking for some friendly faces and an opportunity to meet new people.
We are continuing to work on our 2015 budget. If you have any ideas for needed capital projects (renovations, programs, etc.), please utilize the suggestion box located on the north side of the circle lounge. I would love to hear your ideas.
God Bless each of you, Vanessa Neal, Executive Director x3652
