Linda Kosta lived on Long Island as a child. Being active at Bethpage United Methodist Church gave her a foundation for the love of family, music and God. She recalls that while in grade school, her love of the arts began. She took piano, flute, a dab of violin, dance and singing. She was a girl who loved the arts! Her family was fortunate to travel many places since her dad was involved in the government Missile Program in Plattsburgh, NY, Kenmare, ND and Sedalia, MO. After high school, Linda attended Maryville College in Tennessee, where she received her degree in Elementary Education. She was fortunate to get a job at Tioga Central School District in upstate New York where she worked for 33 years. Linda earned her Master’s degree during that time from Elmira College. In 1983, she married Mike Kosta, where they resided in Apalachin, NY for almost 25 years. Unfortunately, Mike became ill and passed away from cancer just before their 25th anniversary. Linda retired from teaching in 2004. She moved to Tulsa to be closer to her family. Linda recalls making a phone call to University Village to inquire about their cottages, but nothing was available for her at the time. A week or two later as she was looking through material on other retirement communities she received a phone call from our Marketing Department, telling her they had a cottage open that met her requirements. Could she come over for a tour? When Linda arrived at the first cottage, she knew this was the place! Linda says “I love that we have people from all over the United States and from every walk of life. The sense of family and community is wonderful. We all look out for each other and enjoy being together.” Linda’s love for UV shows as she is involved with so many of the activities provided like choir, drama, and Wii Bowling. She also enjoys volunteering as a Bingo Caller and being a friendly visitor in our Health Center. We are blessed to have Linda Kosta as a resident for 2 years and counting!
