Why Red, White & Blue?

Every July 4th, we sport patriotic T-shirts, attend picnics, watch fireworks and wave the American flag. But did you ever wonder, why Red, White and Blue?
In 1777, a resolution stated …“that the flag of the United States be thirteen stripes, alternate red and white; that the union be thirteen stars, white in a blue field representing a new constellation.” And with these words, our Stars and Stripes were born!
Over the years, the “colors” of our Founding Fathers have come under interpretation. Some say red represents blood spilled by courageous patriots, white is purity and high ideals, and blue means vigilance and justice. President Ronald Reagan proclaimed, “The colors of our flag signify the qualities of the human spirit we Americans cherish. “
The United States is truly a diverse nation made up of different people, much like our family at University Village. Folks leave their households to begin life in a new home with people of various backgrounds, interests and beliefs … to restart their American Dream. Yes, we are quite a family!
Today, and every day, we can enjoy our freedom and believe in the flag’s power to evoke patriotism and pride. And as we celebrate Independence Day, enjoy the diversity of your neighbors, as distinct and wonderful as red, white and blue.
