The University Village Foundation, whose mission is to provide financial support to an array of worthy recipient charities within the greater Tulsa community, welcomes financial support from individuals who believe in its mission. This year, the University Village Foundation made donations to the Wounded Warrior Project and the John 3:16 Mission.
The Wounded Warrior Project is a charity founded in 2003 in Roanoke, Virg., by a group of veterans and friends who took action to help the injured service men and women of this generation after returning home from Afghanistan and Iraq. What started as a program to provide comfort items to wounded service members has grown into a complete rehabilitative effort to assist warriors as they transition back to civilian life. WWP’s mission is to ‘honor and empower Wounded Warriors, and be the hand extended to encourage warriors as they adjust to their new normal and achieve new triumphs.’
The John 3:16 Mission was founded in 1952 by Rev. Bob Geisinger. It is known as one of Tulsa’s most trusted and effective ministries to the poor, hungry and homeless. Since founded, the Mission has served more than 4 million meals and provided over 1 million nights of shelter. The mission statement of John 3:16 is to ‘reclaim lives and restore hope to homeless and at-risk men, women and children as it ministers to their physical, mental, emotional and spiritual needs.’
